Sophie Bledsoe Aberle

Sophie Bledsoe Aberle (21 July 1896 – October 1996) was a Native American anthropologist , physician and nutritionist. She received a Ph.D. in Genetics from Stanford University in 1927 and an M.D. from Yale University in 1930. Aberle studied Native Americans in the southwestern U.S. She, and Dr. Gerty T. Cori, were appointed to the first National Science Board by President Truman in 1951.〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=A Timeline of NSF History )
==Involvements==
Aberle was a member of the upper Rio Grande drainage basin committee. She also consulted for the health committee of the All Indian Pueblo Council and was a member of the New Mexico Nutrition Committee. Aberle also worked as a member of the White House Conference on Children in Democracy, and was the chair of the board of directors for the Southwest Field Training School for Federal Service.〔
Aberle worked with the Bureau of Indian Affairs from 1935 to 1944. She then took a position with National Research Council until 1949, and from 1949 to 1954 at the University of New Mexico. She worked for the Bernalillo County Indian Hospital until 1970 when she returned to the University of New Mexico.
